FAQs
Business Advising
Business Advising encourages shared responsibility between students and academic advisors to engage in course planning towards graduation goals; coordinates workshops and programs to ensure successful student transition, retention and graduation; and provides support and referrals to connect students with campus resources.

What does it mean to accept admission?
Accepting admission is the student’s “intent to enroll” at CSUF. All newly admitted students are required to accept admission and pay the enrollment deposit in order to reserve a space at CSUF.

Will I have an assigned advisor?
Students will not have an assigned advisor. All advisors in the Business Advising Center are here to help you plan your major and general education coursework. Students are able to meet with any advisor, or request a specific advisor, if preferred.

Am I required to meet with an advisor every semester?
Transfer students are required to complete a mandatory new transfer student advising process through Canvas before registering. After completion of this process on Canvas, students may meet with a business advisor but it is not mandatory.

Freshmen will meet with their business advisors during freshman orientation. After the initial meetings, it is up to each student to determine how often they meet with their advisor. We recommend that students meet with an advisor once each semester to stay on track and review requirements.

My records state that I am a “pre-” major. What does this mean?
All students in the College of Business and Economics start off as a pre-major, such as pre-business, pre-international business or pre-economics. Once you have completed all of your lower-division business core courses, you are eligible to declare your concentration/major. Students can declare a concentration in-person with a Business Advisor or online through our website.

Do I need to pay all my tuition and fees before I can register or take classes? I am awaiting financial aid.
Financial aid will be dispersed and you will be allowed to take classes and register prior. If you accepted financial aid, the university will wait for the funding to come in and clear.
Transfer Students

I have an associate degree for transfer (AD-T). What major within the College of Business and Economics am I allowed to follow?
Students who earn an associate degree for transfer (AD-T) in business administration from a California community college may select one of the following three majors: business administration, economics or international business. Students may select any single concentration under the business administration or international business major. Joint emphases or concentrations, double-majors and the addition of minors are not approved for this agreement.

What does an associate degree for transfer (AD-T) mean for me?
The AD-T is a joint program between CSU Fullerton and California community colleges that makes it easier for students to transfer. Students who transfer to CSUF with an approved AD-T are guaranteed the completion of their CSUF degree in 60 additional semester units.

What must I complete before I can enroll?
You must complete the college's Ethics Quiz, a new student advising appointment with a business advisor, new transfer student orientation and the Title IX ‘Not Anymore’ quiz.

How do I know which courses to take in my first semester?
All newly admitted transfer students are required to complete a mandatory advising session. During this session, the advisor will review the major and help you develop your class schedule for your first semester.
Freshmen

How can I graduate in four years?
The Business Advising Centers offers four-year roadmaps for each major and concentration. You can pick up a roadmap during your first semester, or access them online on our website.

How do I submit my AP scores to CSUF?
To request your Advanced Placement scores be sent, please visit College Board. Please be sure your scores are submitted to Admissions and Records in Langsdorf Hall (LH) 114.

I have heard about ALEKS. What is it and why should I complete it?
ALEKS is an online learning module that assists in determining if students are calculus ready. Completing the ALEKS module will help to determine if you will begin your college career by completing MATH 115 – College Algebra or MATH 135 – Business Calculus.
Business Career Services
Business Career Services (BCS) provides career advising to help students develop an individual strategic action plan towards achieving their career goals. BCS builds relationships with local, national, and international employers for career growth opportunities and coordinates professional development events such as career fairs, workshops and panels.

What kind of services does Business Career Services offer?

Business Career Services offers 30-minute appointments that cover a range of topics including job/internship search strategy, mock interviews, career exploration, résumé/cover letter review and more. Students can make same day appointments and choose from in-person or virtual appointment modalities.

60-minute workshops where you can learn and build on your career readiness skills in a group setting. Topics are similar to appointments but include engaging activities.

Employer events where you can meet and network with recruiters and learn about job and internship opportunities.

Both workshops and employer events are offered in multiple modalities: virtual, hybrid, and in-person.

I am still not sure what area of business I want to get into. How can I get more information on what my options are?
Our office provides career exploration support through one-on-one career advising appointments with an advisor. Our office has also created career path guides that review many business areas and the various career paths available within those industries.

Our office provides résumé support in the following ways:

One-on-one support from an advisor in 30-minute in depth résumé/cover letter review session.

Vmock is an online résumé review tool that uses technology to scan your résumé and provide detailed feedback on content, presentation and overall impact.

Interactive and hands on résumé workshops where you can receive guidance on résumé building and even work on your résumé in the workshop.

What should I know about internships?

Internships are a great way to get real-world experience and test-drive a career. Internships can be paid or unpaid and for academic credit or non-academic credit. Business Career Services can help you explore and navigate all options!

Some disciplines of business recruit during specific timeframes; however, internships are available year-round, so your decision to pursue an internship will depend on your workload and other responsibilities you need to manage. You can set up automated reminders on job/internship search sites. You can always ask a career advisor for more information.

Interested in public accounting? The competition is fierce, and many firms have first- and second-year leadership programs. Chat with an advisor to help set yourself up for success.

Can I receive academic credit for an internship?
Yes! We suggest meeting first with our internship advisor to learn the steps and timeline. Once you secure an internship, you’ll check in again with the internship advisor to help you through the process.

What is the practicum requirement? What are my options?
All business administration students that started in fall 2019 or later must complete an approved practicum requirement course, selected in consultation with your advisor. The three pathways consist of a professional and career development course OR academic internship course OR experiential learning course. Check out practicum pathways for more details.

How likely am I to get a job in a business-related field after I graduate?

Our employer relations team works to build and develop relationships with companies and organizations to provide job/internship opportunities for students.

Because we are housed within the college, we can leverage the relationships we have with our departments, centers and student clubs and make sure the students have opportunities to connect with employers specific to their career interests/goals.

What opportunities do students have in connecting with employers on campus?

We host about 30-45 employer events each year consisting of recruitment sessions, courtyard tabling, career industry panels, office hours, and site visits.

All these events provide students with exposure and opportunity to connect with employers, learn about different careers, apply and recruit for jobs/internships, and start building their network.

There is also a dedicated Business Career Fair each semester, bringing in about 50-60 companies hiring business students.

Business Career Services provides many services and resources online. First, all of our appointments can be done in person, on the phone or by video. Our workshops and employer events are hosted through Zoom as well as in person. We try to have multiple options to accommodate the busy student schedule.

Tutoring
The Tutoring Center provides 30-minute peer-to-peer tutoring appointments or drop-ins, and review sessions for core business classes and informs students of additional academic support through the university’s Supplemental Instruction (SI) office.

Is tutoring available for all subjects?
Tutoring is available only for the core business courses.

Who are the tutors?
The tutors are paid business students (instructional student assistant employees) who have taken the courses they tutor in. They have performed well in these courses and enjoy helping their peers understand the material.

Can I just drop in for tutoring?
It is possible to drop in, but it is recommended that a student books an advance appointment. Appointments are 30-minute sessions. For more information, please visit the Tutoring Center web presence.

How many times can I book an appointment per week?
Due to capacity, we limit tutoring to two appointments per day (each appointment would be for a different course), on a maximum of three days in a week.

What other academic support is available?
There is a limited number of Supplemental Instruction (SI) courses within the college. The SI leads are students who have successfully taken these courses and facilitate additional sessions outside the regular class times. More information is available online.
Clubs and Organizations
The college's clubs and organizations connect students to more than 20 student-run business organizations, which include professional business fraternities and concentration or cultural-based clubs/organizations.They provide opportunities to build leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

What types of student clubs or organizations are there?
There is a variety of student-led groups – from those targeting specific concentrations, to business fraternity types, to ethnic-based groups. See a full listing of clubs and organizations.

How much does it cost?
Each group’s membership dues can be based on one semester; usually a bit lower for annual dues. The cost varies.

How can I find out more when I start school in the fall?
The clubs will be in the Mihaylo Hall Courtyard for the first two to three weeks of the fall semester – usually between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Come talk to the student leaders about how they got involved and consider joining one (or even two).

What are the benefits of joining a student club or organization?
You will make new friends, build community, learn new people skills and connect with alumni and potential employers … and have fun!
