Alumni Spotlight

Alumni Spotlight1

Amelia Lewis

As fall semester comes to an end for CSUF students most are relieved and ready to start their break. Others on the other hand, especially those who will be graduating next spring, are already preparing for next semester. For many upcoming graduates the feelings of uncertainty and stress are fully present as they begin to realize that in just a few months they will finally be out in the quote on quote ‘real world’. For many students, including myself, the thought about graduating is scary because people always tell you how hard it is to find a job after school and for us EHM majors the industry is highly competitive. But that is not to say it is impossible. Take one of our very own and recent alumni, Amelia Lewis, for example. Graduated in Spring of 2017, currently Amelia works at CBS and is enjoying every second of it. I asked her if she could provide a little more insight about her experience. This is what she had to say.

Where do you currently work at?

I am currently an Office Production Assistant for CBS's medical drama "Code Black" - It is filmed on the Walt Disney lot and that is where I've been working for the past 6 months.

How are you liking your experience so far?

I am loving it! It is so fun working on a TV show, especially one with such exciting storylines and an elaborate hospital set. Everyone here is so lovely and we all share a passion for this industry.

Being as successful as she is while only recently graduating made me wonder how she was as a student. I wanted to know the steps she took to put her in the position she is in now.

What kind of things were you involved in as an undergraduate?

I was the VP of Communication for Behind the Scenes - the organization associated with the Entertainment and Hospitality concentration. I also volunteered for our school's Titan TV station in the Communication building.

Any advice for students within the concentration currently?

I would say take advantage of the opportunities you have at school. If you are interested in film/tv I recommend volunteering for our school's station to get an idea of how it all works. Join clubs that closely match your interests; you will learn a lot and meet people who are passionate about the same things. Apply for internships while you still can! Many big companies only take people who are either still in college or have graduated within six months. Internships have incredible opportunities that you don't want to miss. Lastly, I know people say this a lot, but networking is vital in this industry. I would not have obtained the opportunities I have if I didn't network!

So fear not all my upcoming graduates. Through hard work, passion, and the power of networking you too can be successful in your future endeavors. Our EHM alumni, Amelia Lewis, is a perfect example and is evident through all her accomplishments. Keep up the hard work and good luck next spring.
