Business Honors Program

If you are a talented and highly motivated student who wants to major in Business Administration and commit to obtaining the most out of your collegiate experience, you need look no further. The Business Honors Program at Mihaylo College of Business and Economics provides a socially and professionally stimulating academic environment to a small group of select students. You will experience four years of academically appealing and challenging courses and extracurricular activities to create a unique small college experience with all of the resources of the largest business school in California, including hundreds of courses and faculty.
You will be part of an exclusive group of students who are among the most talented in Mihaylo College. The Business Honors Program is constructed to help connect you with other top students, faculty and business executives, and to prepare you for a career in the fast-changing global economy. The prestigious group of Business Honors graduates comprises the top five to ten percent of their class and may go directly into business and industry or choose to continue their education in graduate school. Whatever your choice, we enable you to build your future as a business leader.

The Business Honors Program provides participating students with special benefits. Honors students have access to the Business Honors Center (a private meeting and study area) and small breakout rooms in Mihaylo Hall; classes are held in cutting-edge computer labs and lecture halls with classroom technology designed to enhance education. Our highly-selective program provides the following benefits:
• Priority registration.
• Scholarship opportunities.
• Small class sizes. The average Business Honors class is from 30-35 students, even though we have about 8,000 students in the college.
• Classes with active and small group discussion.
• Individual attention in the classroom from professors and close interaction with other motivated students.
• Dedicated staff available for guidance throughout your academic career.
• Internships or study abroad programs that enable you to put your newly learned skills into action.
• Stimulating courses, but not necessarily more time consuming or difficult.
• Opportunity to contribute to the community through service projects.
• Practical extracurricular activities and workshops focusing on how to: study, develop vital leadership skills, present in front of groups design an effective resume, and prepare for a career as a business leader.
• Participation in seminars/colloquia led by industry leaders.
• Opportunity to be a vital part of Mihaylo College beginning with your first semester at California State Fullerton.
• A system of self-governance for Business Honor students.
• Ability to be a member of both the University Honors Program and the Business Honors Program.
• An Honors designation on your University diploma and a Business Honors Certificate at graduation.
Two groups of students may apply for admission to the
Business Honors Program for the fall
2012 semester:
1.
First–time freshman who have been admitted with a
major in business administration.
2.
Current business
majors and transfer students who will begin their junior
year in fall 2012.
To be eligible for admission to the Business Honors
Program, all students must:
- Demonstrate leadership, community service and/or
creativity in their educational pursuits.
- Exhibit the desire
to enrich their educational experience and exhibit the
desire to strengthen one's critical thinking skills.
- Submit an online application packet, which includes an essay, one or two letters of reference and high school or college transcripts.
In addition, students must have a proven and strong academic performance, and:
- First–time freshman must achieve a 3.75 grade point
average in college preparatory course work in grades 10, 11 and the first semester of
their senior year in high school,
or obtain a minimum of a 1150 score on the SAT from
combining the verbal and math sections.
- Juniors entering (from CSUF or a community college) must
achieve a 3.50 grade
point average in their prior college work. See application for further details.

Selection Process
1. Applications will be screened by a college committee. Selected students undergo a personal interview with college members. Incoming juniors with a 3.60 GPA average in college work will automatically be granted an interview.
2. Final decision for admission into our Business Honors Program is based upon your interview and overall qualifications.
3. The deadline to apply to the Business Honors program for freshman candidates is January 31, 2012. Candidates for admission to the freshman class will be contacted in late March. The deadline to apply for juniors candidates is March 31, 2012.
First–time freshman
Juniors entering (from CSUF or a community college)
1. Students
in the Business Honors Program will complete the
business core courses and the capstone course, Mgmt 449,
in honors designated sections. For students who
enter as freshmen, all lower and upper-division business
core courses must be taken in honor sections. In
addition, freshmen will enroll in University 100.
For students who enter at the junior year, all
upper-division business core courses must be taken in

2. Participate in extracurricular honor program activities.
3. Complete an internship or study abroad program.
3. Achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 at graduation.
